The Choctaw nation and the Irish remember an incredible kindness from over 170 years ago.
The Choctaw people were one of the first victims of Andrew Jackson’s Trail of Tears. They were moved to what would become Oklahoma. They were poverty stricken and destitute. They learned about what was happening to the Irish during the Great Famine (Ireland’s potato famine). Despite their hardships, the Choctaw sent a relief donation to the Irish. Ireland remembers and returns the favor to help out First Nations reservations slammed by COVID-19.
Both peoples remember.
We aren’t taught in America this beautiful kindness and across the ocean empathy, but as the video will tell you, the children of Ireland grow up learning of this incredible act of the Choctaw.
Spread the word!!!
WARNING: Emotions may occur. This may make you misty eyed!
I came across this. I must share it. I know there are a lot of Irish American fans of the ELE Series. (I wish I could say a lot of First Nations fans, too, but this doesn’t seem to be.)
In the Series, there is a particular bond of understanding between Peter and Ben. This bond exists because they share similar historical traumas in their backgrounds. I am not the only one who sees Irish and First Nations having this similarity.
Unfortunately, these websites won’t let me connect so it’s gotta be the links.
