The un-American Trolls!

Amazon and Goodreads (owned by Amazon) permit internet trolls to proliferate on their platforms. Starting in 2020, indie authors have been terrorized online by many different pain-in-the-ass, melodramatic hate group trolls. The members of these hate groups, who obviously have no social lives to speak of, discovered the weakness with these Amazon platforms, which do not abide by even their own review policies, and exploited this for their ridiculous behavior that everyone finds stupid. These no-life hate groups are not logical or rational—they present as 100% emotional thinkers, so logic and reason for their targeting of books goes out the window. Each of the trolls from these groups presents a very specific behavior that very easily identifies them as connected, for which government agencies open files on the individuals and investigate them, including online monitoring.

For Amazon and Goodreads, the trolls post fake, abusive, or irrelevant negative reviews to harass authors who fit whatever victim profile of the hate group de jour, and disrupt sales. From this behavior, the get-a-life intense haters want to cause what is called the “Silencing Effect,” meaning that the nature and intensity of online harassment can lead authors to self-censor, avoid certain topics, or even consider leaving the profession altogether. The trolls want to control what YOU read and WHO is allowed to write books, as if they are the Reich Chamber of Culture.

The specific hate group that is currently the ridiculous moron trolls is the incels. What are they?

"Incel trolls" refers to individuals who identify with the online subculture of "involuntary celibates" (incels) and engage in harassment and trolling behavior, primarily directed at women and sexually successful men. This behavior is a manifestation of the deep-seated misogyny and anger prevalent within the incel community, which often sees itself as a victim of a society that denies them sexual and romantic relationships.

The trolls post fake reviews to harass authors or disrupt sales, targeting the authors for personal reasons and not book content. Female authors are 3 times more likely to be targeted by them than male authors. Amazon and Goodreads have significant issues with internet trolls, leading to fake reviews, coordinated “review bombing,” especially one-star attacks on authors for personal reasons or ideology, harassment, and bot accounts, which harm authors and create a toxic environment. Authors often face attacks unrelated to the book’s content, including threats and unfounded criticism, leading many to withdraw their books or avoid those platforms.

There is so much violence, including mass shootings, coming from the incel cult that law enforcement and counterterrorism agencies in the US and UK consider this secular cult to be an “emerging domestic terrorist threat.” Look at the shocking list of “incel-related violence” on Wikipedia.

In 1818, Mary Shelley’s iconic Frankenstein was published under the pseudonym “anonymous,” because women weren’t taken seriously as writers. Many female authors of that century wrote under male nom de plumes for their work to be read critically and without bias or prejudice. In the 21st century, internet trolls seek the straight-up female author oppression of the 19th century, with its lack of meritocracy. In the 2020s, it’s going back two hundred years that women authors with talent must write under male pen names and male personas or do not indie publish at all, especially on Amazon and Goodreads.

Meritocracy is a social system where individuals are rewarded and advance based purely on their talent, ability, and effort (their “merit”), rather than ascribed characteristics like inherited wealth, social class, background, race, or gender, theoretically creating upward social mobility through talent and hard work.

The American Dream is fundamentally rooted in the concept of meritocracy—the belief that success, wealth, and upward mobility are earned through individual talent, hard work, and skill. The female-targeting trolls are 100% against meritocracy, and therefore against a cornerstone of American principles ... and desiring to put the United States back over 200 years. 

Amazon and Goodreads put the burden on customers to be knowledgeable of the trolls and to distinguish between authentic reviews and falsities meant as attacks. Add it to all the other shitting-on-the-suppliers-and-customers behavior Amazon does, right? The logical fix to this problem, which is within regular people’s grasp, is to educate Amazon and Goodreads customers. That is what this article is for.

Get this: Trolls are known for making many fake profiles. This includes, but is not limited to, inventing a female name in fake profiles to attack the books repeatedly and try to avoid being nailed as haters on the platforms, which would require their bullshit to be pulled off the platform. Holy crap, right?

Alas, that is merely what the customers can see, and not the abuses the black-souled trolls message women authors through social media. Indie authors must promote their work, and it’s typically on social media. What happens? Out of the blue, do not know them from Adam, instant messaging of fifty-year-old women, with such one and two-word messages as “slut lol,” and “dogshit.” What the hell? One wonders what such childish, stupid insults can gain for the obviously socially dysfunctional assholes. With research, it was discovered that the purpose is to harass talented female writers, of all ages and generations, into giving up on writing. For real, as utterly bat shit nuts, malignant, and “get a life, loser!” as that is. Apparently, with weaker, and usually younger, women, the tactic has actually worked. Come on, girls, get it together! Be like Phebe in this story. You never know what you are made of until tested!

Charlotte Brontë used the male pen name Currer Bell to publish her novels, including her most famous work, Jane Eyre (1847). She adopted this pseudonym to avoid the prejudice against female authors during the Victorian era, allowing her work to be judged without gender bias. This quote from her is about her and her sisters using male nom de plumes:

“Averse to personal publicity, we veiled our own names under those of Currer, Ellis and Acton Bell; the ambiguous choice being dictated by a sort of conscientious scruple at assuming Christian names positively masculine, while we did not like to declare ourselves women, because—without at that time suspecting that our mode of writing and thinking was not what is called ‘feminine’—we had a vague impression that authoresses are liable to be looked on with prejudice; we had noticed how critics sometimes use for their chastisement the weapon of personality, and for their reward, a flattery, which is not true praise.”

For men reading this about the similar current 21st-century matter, how would you like your mother, wife, sister, or daughter who has writing talent and publishes on Amazon to then receive her sales diminished through unfettered harassment, insults, be lied about, and her work be lied about, and be abused as the trolls are doing, solely because she is female?

These extremely un-American trolls are 100% against people who earn their hash marks—no meritocracy permitted for the female of the species or anyone else they target.

Counter them in reviews and call out on them–call a duck a duck. Give them what they earn. Let them know you want a meritocracy society. If you have the opportunity, as a customer, complain to Amazon and Goodreads about the troll liars they are allowing to proliferate and how this makes reviews untrustworthy.

How to make an incel troll terrorist:

For incels, they are so pitiful that the news media doesn’t want to cover them. Incels do not make for good news entertainment. But one must realize that narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) in young, spoiled, privileged, middle-class, usually suburban males is a growing problem. It has been for a while, but no one paid any attention until these males started killing people. The five-year cohort right after mine, so they would be late 1970s-early 1980s born, already began developing openly extreme misogynistic boys, who were more sexist than their grandfathers. This was before the popularity of the internet or the bombardment of political correctness. They are the Columbine High School Massacre age cohort.

As small children, these males were given everything by the adults who were raising them, and they never had to earn anything or face accountability. They suffered no abuse, and they were low-crime areas. They grew up middle-class and typically from the suburbs. They had few rules, and were without the rules of respecting their parents and elders. As small children, they faced no ramifications or accountability for their bad behavior; they were, in a roundabout way, rewarded instead. Throwing a temper tantrum and acting ugly caused their adult caregivers to cave in and give them what they wanted. They never got their butts whopped for anything. This behavior became ingrained in their development, though it is unrealistic and promised to make them dysfunctional as adults.

When they became adolescents and grew attracted to girls, they went about their approach to these girls in a belittling, insulting manner, and they were duly rejected for it. The NPD boys, many of whom present psychopathy, did not understand why the girls would not just give themselves to them simply because the boys wanted this. They had never had to work for anything as small children, and therefore cannot understand the need to work for things as growing adults—earning things just is not in the perceptions of these NPDs. They grew imbittered and hateful, not only towards the entire female population of the world, but also towards the men who were successful in having girlfriends.

Additionally, starting with this cohort, they openly refused to obey the orders of women at school who were their teachers and women at work who were their superiors, such as managers. They directly stated, “I won’t listen to a woman,” and “I won’t do what a woman tells me to do.” Of course, this resulted in them being fired or, at school, punished in some manner. But NPDs would take this as persecution of them by both women and vastly better-adjusted men, instead of cause-and-effect accountability for their behavior.

With the popularity of the internet, this permitted these NPD males to meet and socialize with others like them, and even with far less dysfunctional guys who were just bad at interacting with the opposite sex. Per usual with groups like this, there is an older male who gives them acceptance and identity and is grooming them. Us vs. them—in-group vs. out-group—grows emphasized. Soon, a bogus mythology is invented, equipped with fake science for secular, fake religious interpretations for the religious-based version. The push for harassment and/or violence begins. They get to blame society or a particular aspect of society for all of their problems and they feel entitled and justified to strike against that society. The same things happen when older men recruit and groom younger men into terrorist groups.

NPD is incurable and not easily treated. People do not grow out of NPD—they die as one. NPD is not to be confused with the trending pop culture “narcissism.” Those with psychopathy are incapable of empathy, which can result in their feeling pleasure from the suffering of others. They do have emotions, contrary to rumor, but they are not normal emotions.
